To keep your home warm in the winter and cool in the summer, you may wish to invest in insulated
windows. The right windows can save hundreds of dollars each year on heating and cooling bills.
With insulated windows, you'll be cutting down on air leakage, cold surfaces, and condensation.

Research Insulated Windows
If you're considering a purchase of  energy efficient windows, there are a few things you should
know. The first is to be aware of the windows' U-factor. The U-factor compares energy efficiency for
doors and windows.  It would be in your best interest to purchase windows with the highest
U-factor possible. You'll also want to choose a window brand that offers reliability. Don't go with an
inexpensive generic brand if you can help it, especially if no warranty is offered. Research
the different
manufacturers to learn which has the better product for your needs.

Tinted Windows
Tinted glass can help to keep your home cool in the summer by cutting down on sun glare. The tint
itself isn't enough to detract from your view, or give the appearance of a darkened window. The
slight change in color is just enough to keep the sun from beating in and making you
uncomfortable. This, of course, can save on cooling costs.

Windows with Air Space
You'll also want to choose windows with a thick layer of air space between the windows. Thicker
air space means thicker insulation. It's best to find windows with ¼" to ½" of air space; you don't
want to go over an inch, however. To further insulate, choose windows filled with a low conductivity
gas such as argon.

When replacing windows, do keep the time of year in mind. It may be less expensive to do the job
in the winter, but this also means you'll be inviting cold air into your home. If you're unsure about
the different
types of windows, we can offer recommendations. Remember to choose energy
efficient, insulated window. This can save thousands of dollars in the long run.
